Curriculum and Program Design
Students learn best when they are invested in the topic of study and when they believe that they are capable learners.
I was commissioned to transform the themes of Habithèque’s award-winning exhibit at the Independence Seaport Museum, RiverAlive! to a set of moveable stations created for a neighborhood creek-side walking path.
I developed a rubric with concepts, inquires and family engagement ideas which was used by all project partners in the creation of sculptures, signs and song resulting in a fun, literacy-rich engagement opportunity suited to young children’s developmental levels and curiosities.
The eye-catching sculptural stations provide families with opportunities to learn, converse and play together as they traverse a busy thoroughfare in their neighborhood.
The Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center works with neighborhood partners to educate citizens about Philadelphia’s urban watershed and to foster stewardship of the shared water resources.
I designed and continue to consult on The Watershed Is An Open Book program which combines early literacy, family engagement and watershed education, and connects the adjacent neighborhood to the mission of the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center
Through informal learning, and with open-ended STEAM exploration, we provide a setting where families enjoy together time, and socialize with other area families.
By providing simple but rich activities that can be replicated at home, and high-quality children’s books to build home libraries, caregivers are supported as first teachers.
The Trust for Public Land runs a participatory playground design process where children help design play spaces that will be installed in their school yard. I created a curriculum with a set of lesson plans to support their work with PreK students.
The curriculum not only strengthens students’ math, movement, literacy, and communication skills, but introduces design concepts in a fun and developmentally appropriate format.
Students learn best when they are invested in the topic of study and when they believe that they are capable learners.
